Standard NetSuite manufacturing provides basic work order and assembly capabilities suited to businesses with straightforward build processes. NetSuite Advanced Manufacturing extends this with work centre management, operation-level routing, production scheduling with capacity awareness, real-time shop floor control with labour and machine time capture, and manufacturing variance analysis. Advanced Manufacturing is suited to businesses with more complex production processes where routing sequence, work centre capacity, and actual versus standard cost visibility are operationally important.
Yes. NetSuite supports multi-level BOMs where finished goods are assembled from sub-assemblies that are themselves assembled from components. Each level of the BOM carries its own material quantities, routing operations, and cost build-up. Production planning can work from multi-level BOMs to generate requirements at every level of the product structure, and cost rolls aggregate through the levels to produce an accurate total standard cost for the finished good.
When a work order is completed, NetSuite compares the actual costs recorded against the order, including materials consumed, labour time captured, and overhead allocated, to the standard costs defined in the BOM and routing. Variances are calculated at the work order level and reported by variance type, whether material usage, labour efficiency, or overhead. These variances can be investigated at the individual work order level or reviewed in aggregate across a period, giving both operations and finance teams the data needed to understand and manage production cost performance.
NetSuite is used by businesses of all sizes, from startups to rapidly growing companies. If you’re considering making the switch but unsure about the cost, here’s a quick breakdown.
NetSuite operates on an annual subscription model, which includes three key components: the core platform, optional modules, and the number of users. There’s also a one-time implementation fee for the initial setup. As your business expands, you can easily add new modules and users, thanks to the flexibility of cloud software.
NetSuite Advanced Manufacturing is available as a module that extends the core NetSuite platform, with pricing dependent on your existing licence structure and the scale of your manufacturing operation.

Yes. NetSuite supports mixed-mode manufacturing environments where some products are produced to a forecast or stock target and others are produced against specific customer orders. Work orders can be linked directly to sales orders for make-to-order production, with the job cost captured and reportable against the specific customer order. Make-to-stock production is scheduled based on inventory targets and demand planning outputs. Both modes operate within the same NetSuite environment without requiring separate systems or manual coordination between them.
Because NetSuite Advanced Manufacturing operates within the core NetSuite platform, production demand flows directly to purchasing for materials that need to be ordered, and materials consumed in production are deducted from inventory in real time as work orders are completed. There is no integration between a separate manufacturing system and a separate ERP to maintain, and no lag between production activity and the inventory and financial records that reflect it. This seamless connection is one of the primary reasons manufacturers choose NetSuite over a standalone MRP or production management tool.
Yes. If your production process uses lot-tracked components or produces lot-tracked finished goods, NetSuite records which input lots were consumed in the production of each output lot, creating a complete traceability chain from raw material through to finished good. This is essential for food, pharmaceutical, and other regulated manufacturers where traceability from ingredient to finished product is a regulatory requirement.
Manufacturing implementations typically range from 4 to 8 months depending on the complexity of your product structures, the number of work centres and routings to be configured, the volume of BOM data to be migrated, and the extent of shop floor integration required. The BOM and routing configuration and validation phase is typically the most time-intensive element. Annexa will provide a detailed timeline based on a thorough review of your manufacturing requirements during the scoping process.
