Frequently asked questions

We have restricted funds and grant money. Does NetSuite do fund accounting properly?

Yes. NetSuite includes a GAAP-compliant fund accounting and financial health framework, with not-for-profit and grant accounting sitting alongside fundraising, donor and volunteer records, program tracking, inventory and spend management. The financial management underneath it is the same as that used for profitability and financial reporting in services organisations.

We can't pay commercial software prices. Is there anything for not-for-profits?

Yes. Oracle NetSuite’s Social Impact Program offers competitive non-profit discounts to suit budgets of all sizes, which changes the commercial picture materially and is worth raising early. What you spend on top of licensing depends on scope, and out-of-the-box implementations are the faster, lower-cost path where a standard industry configuration fits.

Our donor, volunteer and client records are in different places. Can we get one view?

You can. Breaking down those silos gives a 360-degree view of donors, volunteers, supporters and clients in one place. Donor management tracks donor activity, runs campaigns and automates communications to improve engagement and retention. Good360 achieved exactly that single view, using the same customer-data foundation behind unified customer, order and inventory data in retail.

Our board and our funders want better reporting. What do they get?

Real-time analytics and reporting on fundraising, expenditure and financial health, so you can track fund allocation and measure ROI, with role-specific dashboards for each team. Good360’s founder calls real-time financial reports a game changer, and Motivation Australia describe NetSuite’s reporting as time-saving and flexible, translating to cost savings across their programs. It is comparable to the in-depth reporting we deliver for services organisations.

How do we show that money spent actually produced outcomes?

By connecting dollars to outcomes. Financial tracking and detailed analytics sit alongside program execution, so spending is demonstrably effective and tied directly to strategic objectives. Granular real-time data lets you respond quickly to changing conditions, measure program impact and adjust strategy. The same planning and analysis tools support budgeting, forecasting and profitability analysis in services businesses.

Which not-for-profits have you implemented this for?

We work with many not for profits. Good360 received a customised solution for complex inventory and warehousing, plus a 360-degree view of all customers, built on NetSuite and AnnexaConnect. That is the kind of build our NetSuite development team delivers. Motivation Australia gained advanced reporting and accounts capability after replacing MYOB and Excel.

We're on MYOB and Excel. Is that a normal starting point for organisations you work with?

Yes, it is a very common starting point. Motivation Australia moved off exactly that, with advanced reporting and accounts capability as the outcome, and our eBook covers going from disconnected, manual systems to one single source of truth. Wholesale distributors make the same move off accounting software and spreadsheets, and our implementation services explain how the data and process transition is handled.

We run programs in several countries. Is that supported?

Yes. For not-for-profits operating internationally, NetSuite provides multi-currency, multi-language and compliance capability against a range of international standards, with NetSuite OneWorld handling multinational, multi-subsidiary and multi-currency structures. It is the same platform behind global multi-entity operations in commercial organisations.

Our operating model is unusual. Will we be forced into a standard template?

No. Extensibility is one of NetSuite’s real strengths for this sector: custom apps, workflows, processes and integrations built to meet unusual or complex not-for-profit requirements. Good360’s project is exactly that. Those builds come from our NetSuite development services, and apps and extensions built by Annexa often cover a requirement without any custom work at all.

If we grow, will we have to buy new software again?

No. NetSuite scales from a few users to thousands, taking on more complex operations without losing performance, so the system adapts rather than being replaced. Warehouse management, payroll, account reconciliation and bank feeds can all be added later, backed by ongoing NetSuite support services and periodic optimisation reviews as your programs change.
